Malayalam cinema Rebounds !

It isevident that Malayalam cinema scene has changed perceptibly and the quality of films released during the summer vacation and Vishu festival have brought the crowd back to the theaters in good numbers.
‘GRAND MASTER’, ‘DIAMOND NECKLACE’ and ‘MALLU SINGH’ have all been crowd pullers because of their quality and themes which were quite different from the usual stuff.
In ‘GRAND MASTER’, Mohanlal playsa character closer to his age and maturity and it has given a boost to his image which was suffering from the catastrophic failure of ‘Casanovva’. The movie itself stands apart as a classic thriller fit to be ranked among the best.
‘MALLU SINGH’ is another hit which qualifies as a mass entertainer and the scenic beauty of Punjab and the city of Patiala adds colour to the movie.
‘DIAMOND NECKLACE’ tells about the changing times and the different lifestyles of people living overseas. Though a romantic story, it differs by the treatment and presentation from that master craftsman Lal Jose. ‘Star in the making’ Fahad Fazil has given a remarkable performance and LalJose is particularly pleased with Fahad’s acting which, according to Lal, is so adaptable and could be bent to the extreme without breaking.
’22 FEMALE KOTTAYAM’, another movie released earlier, was also acclaimed by critics for its bold theme on a contemporary issue. Similarly,
‘MAYAMOHINI’, was able to capture a sizable section of fans and bring in profits, though the quality of the film was nothing to be talked about, and the film has completed 30 days successfully.
The lukewarm response accordedto Malayalam films at the beginning of 2012 in spite of the super star presence had given rise to fears among the film makers but the trend has changed and the beginning of thechange could be traced from ‘EE ADUTHAKALATHU’ which was a reasonable success. It was followed by ‘ORDINARY’, the first mega hit of 2012, which has completed 60 days and still going strong.
Along with a crop of young stars, this period has also given a number of new directors and artists which bodes well for Malayalam Cinema.
