M.G.Sreekumarto produce "Ardhanari".
M.G.Sreekumar, singer, music director and reality show judge, has now decided to enter the field of film direction with the film‘Ardhanari’. The film deals with the life of eunuchs and is directedby Dr.Santhosh Pournami who writes the story and screenplay for the movie as well. Music is composed by Kaithapram and Madhusoodan Nair and Sreekumar himself is the music director. According to reports, Thilakan appears in a very important role in the movie.

Grandmaster falls, Mallu sing &Diamond necklace safe
Even as the early May releases are running on their fourth week, theBox Office reports about their fates are finally out. The early reports are that while the Mohanlal starer 'Grandmaster' fails to become a hit, 'Mallu Singh' and 'Diamond Necklace' continueswith their safe run.
B Unnikrishnan's 'Grandmaster ' was released in 62 centres, but in the week four, the movie has been eliminated form 41 theatres.Currently the movie continues in 18 centers and a couple of multiplexes, of which a few have reduced show numbers. The movie will find it difficult to attain the hit status, continuing with thefates of all other superstar films ofthe year like 'Casanova', 'The king and the Commissioner' and 'Cobra'. Laljose's "Diamond Necklace ' has emerged the black horse among the three releases of the week. The movie which made to just 24 centres in its release week is nowbeing shown in 42 centres. A movie with a lesser cast of Fahd Fazil , Samvrutha Sunil and Sreenivasan supported by a few fresh faces , 'Diamond Necklace' has already emerged a hit and adds a feather to the new generation hits that made to theatres this year.
Vysakh's 'Mallusingh' has surprisingly emerged safe in its fourth week, though a section of the critics were heavily giving thumps down for the film. The colourful movie hasn't lost much of its release centres and is still running in 59 centres across the state. The six crore affair may turna hit if it can pull in crowds for yetanother week.

Jagathy Sreekumar unable to identify people
One of the most loved actors of Mollywood, Jagathy Sreekumar, who was gravely injured after he met with an accident at nearby Tenhipalam on March 10 is still unable to identify his friends and relatives as his brain is still not responding.
Jagathy Sreekumar, who is now being treated at CMC Vellore is finding it very difficult to recognise people around him. The actor's rightside was completely paralysed after the accident.
Thanks to the efforts of the doctor, Jagathy is now able to move his right leg and is ina semi conscious state. Doctors hope that since his right side has begun to move, this movement will gradually pass on to the rest of his body as well and then the actor will regain his ability to speak.
Moreover, all outside woundshave been healed and his body has begun responding to medication. Let's hope thatJagathy Sreekumar gets well soon and comes back on the big screen.

'Kochi to Kodambakkam' completes shooting
'Kochi to Kodambakkam' with Jayaram in the lead has completedits shooting. Venu Pradeep is the director and the film is produced under the banner 'V.R International'. Sreeram, Indrans, Dinesh Panikkar, Dilli Ganesh, Darmajan Bolhatti, Unni S. Nair, Priya, Charutha Baiju, Reena Bashir and Latha Rao also star in the film.
Mammootty in promo for Mohanlal's new film?
(IANS) They were on-screen rivals for long, but now off-screen it appears they have buried the hatchet as a promo of Mohanlal's newest film "Spirit" will feature Mammootty, boosting the marketing fortunes of the film.
The film, which was scheduled forrelease in the first week of June, is now delayed by 10 days to accommodate the promo shoot, asource close to director Renjith told IANS. "This delay is because Mammoottyis currently holidaying in Europe and is expected to be back here, early next month. Once he returns, he will do the promo to promote this Mohanlal film, whichfights the use of alcohol," said thesource, who didn't wish to be named. Renjith and Mohanlal have come together for a movie after 2007 film "Rock N' Roll", which bombedat the box office.
Initially, Renjith had zeroed in on Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and state Excise Minister K.Babu to do the promo, but later he decided to go for Mammootty, for obvious marketing reasons. Moreover, Mammootty, who madea 40-second film "Say No to Drinks; Say No to Drugs" as part ofa campaign by the excise department last year, has gone onrecord saying that he would try toavoid doing film scenes intended to promote the use of liquor and drugs.

Navya Nair as Lal's wife in "Scene Onnu, Nammude Veedu".
Navya Nair is making a comeback to acting as Lal’s wife in the movie‘Scene Onnu, Nammude Veedu’ directed by Shyju Anthikad.

"Hero"opens to good opinions
Prithviraj 's latest 'Hero' opened togood opinions and initials today. The movie which started screening at 75 centres, a day later than the original schedules isopined as a good action flick by the First day First Show viewers.The movie has Prithvi as Tarzon Antony, a stunt dupe who is forced to make a come back to his profession following some pressures from unexpected corners.Sequences like Prithvi's introduction, film shooting scenes and action scenes of colony people are all lapped up bythe viewers who seem to have appreciated the second half of themovie , more than its first.The songs, their picturisation and BGM are all opined to be other good highlights of the movie.Anoop Menon, Yami Gowtham and Thalasivaasal Vijy also fetch much applause in the movie, which is expected to fare safe at the Box Office.Director Deepan also impresses with a racy second half which is said to be the soul of the movie, telling a plot about stunt artists and dupes.
Samudrakkani to team up with mohanlal ?!
Actor / director Samuthirakani is all set to cast Mollywood superstarMohanlal in his next directorial venture. He has said that he needsa months time to complete the script, which suits Mohanlal.
This potential project is expected to be carrying a social message, jus like any other Samuthirakani film. He also admitted that the idea of directing a Malayalam film came up, after watching a few films of late and gaining good contacts in the Mollywood circle.

Mohanlal to don"SaiBaba" ??
It isabuzz that Superstar Mohanlal willdon the role of spiritual leader 'Sree Satya Sai Baba' in the Telugumovie "BABA SATYASAI".
The film will be directed by Kodi Ramakrishna. Sources say that Mohanlal is interested in playing the role of Baba.
However, the final decision has not been taken due to some vagueness on the remuneration details.
RATHINIRVEDAM fame Sreejith Vijay plays the young age of Sai Baba in this film.

Sathyan anthikkad's next movie titled as 'Oru karyam parayanundu'
Sathyan Anthikad’s new film has been named ‘Oru Karyam Parayanundu’.
Nedumudi Venu and Namitha Prasad play the male and female leads respectively.
The film deals with the relationship betweena seventy-year old man and an eighteen year-old girl and difes quite substantially from Sathyan’s earlier films. Sathyan was so impressed with Namitha’s stellar performance as the daughter of Rahman and Lena in ‘Traffic’ that he had no second thought on offering her the role.
Others in the film cast include Nivin Pauly, Innocent, KPAC Lalitha,Mukesh, Mamukoya and Ashokan.
The movie is produced by Anto Joseph and Benny P Nayarambalam. Ilayaja directs music. The shooting will commence in July.
Mohanlal-Lal team is back .
After a long gap of twenty one years, Mohanlal and Lal are uniting for a new film.
Mohanal had acted in the Lal directed 'Vietnam Colony'[ the filmwas jointly directed by Siddhique-Lal duo].
However, Lal has acted in several films with the superstar during this time. It is reported that the film will be on the floors by 2013.

As Jagathy Sreekumar recuperates ina Vellore hospital, producers and directors are in the process of finding substitutes to replace Jagathy in their films.
While the scripts are being rewritten for the substitutes, the re-shooting with the substitutes is also going on at a brisk space at various locations after abandoning the roles half-finished with Jagathy.
‘Mr.Marumakan’ starring Dileep has replaced Jagathy with Baburajand the reshooting with Baburaj is already on its way.
Baburaj’s performance in ‘Salt andPepper’ in a humorous role has altered his graph and given him a new identity and fresh opportunities.
‘Manthrikan’ directed by Anil is another movie casting Jagathy and it is said that Jagathy's role is completely removed from the script. Instead, Suraj Venjaramoodu’s small role is being expanded with more scenes, according to the grapevine. When an approach was made to aNational Award winning actor from Cochin to take up Jagathy’s role, he demanded double of what has been Jagathy’s fee!
At the same time, Suraj was ready to work for half of Jagathy’s fee. The actor from Cochin who shifted from mimicry to acting demanded more saying that sinceas he was being substituted for Jagathy, his charge was also high. At the same time, Venjaramoodu says he is delighted at being called to replace ‘Ambili Chettan’ and so the half rate. The reactionsfrom the two were contrary to what was expected by the film crowd, so goes the talk.
But the Cochin actor’s cronies from Maharajas support him and say that he is a simple person andprobably a little too much of his evening quota might have made him talk like that.
Some of the experts in the film land had anticipated more roles for Jagdeesh and Maniyan Pilla Raju until Jagathy comes back to acting, but contrary to their expectations, Baburaj seems to bag most of these replacement roles.
Another villain turned comedian, Janardanan, seems to have been surprised and highly impressed with the way Baburaj is carrying himself, and has confided as much to his close friends.

Vidya Balan in Malayalam Apparel Ad.
Though there have been a streamof reports indicating that Vidya Balan, the award winning actress of ‘The Dirty Picture’ will be appearing soon in a Malayalam movie, so far the actress has not accepted any offer to act in Mollywood.
However, reports say that she hassigned a contract with a big cloth house of Kerala to act in their ad film for a mind boggling sum and the shooting is expected to be conducted at Cochin. Sources close to the actress stated that she agreed to appear in the publicity campaign because of herlove for home land and mother tongue.
There were rumours earlier that Vidya would appear along with Mammootty and Prithviraj in ‘Arival Chuttika Nakshathram’ but there has been no official confirmation so far.

MALAYALAM MOVIE HERO :: REVIEW
Prithviraj 's Hero tells the story of a man who works as Dupe for film stars, He does highly risky stunts as a dupe for the film star and he takes all the credits of that stunts.
Prithviraj' s Introduction scene was really good, His fans are going to love that shot. And in overall, Prithviraj did really well as an actor and try to produce all his capabilities. And the 6 Packs he build especially for this movie helped to raise the promotional part of the movie.
The Actress Yami Gautam ( Vicky Donor Fame) was looking gorgeous in the movie, But I think that she was facing some difficulties with lip sync, in fact, the dubbing artist may had moredifficulties than she had :). Actor Anoop Manon (Adithyan) did very good with his role.
Background Music was really good, Photography, Screen Play and direction - Good. Action Scenes were excellent. Songs were OK.
Actor Srikanth and Bala were not at their best, Actually they made us bored many times. The story line is very predictable, Same old level of story telling. And the Climax is not so good.
Verdict: This movie is watchable if you are prepared to watch an Acton packed movie.

THIRUVAMBADI THAMBAN :: REVIEW
The first half of the movie is not quite as engaging as the second but altogether, THIRUVAMBADI THAMBAN is a watchable movie keeping you engaged from the beginning to the end. Story by Padmakumar is simple without any twists or turns but the movie has the ability to keep you engrossed with some high qualityacting, lovely music, excellent visuals and striking dialogues.
Alexander John produces the film under the banner of Jini Cinema.
Legend has it that 64 Christian families of traders from Central Travancore settled in Trichur at the request of Shakthan Thamburan for the purpose of developing Trichur into a large trading centre. They were given all the support by the Royalty including a say in governing. Prominent among them was the family known as Thiruvambadi Alangat Malikakkar. The family’s love for elephants has been well recorded and has been handed down from generation to generation right up to the present generation of Thiruvambadi Mathan Tharakan and his son Thiruvambadi Thamban.
They are one of the biggest elephant contractors in the wholeof South India and uncle Kunjoonju Mappila helps them in the business. Sonpur, by the banks of river Ganga, conducts the biggest elephant fair in the whole of Asia and you can be certain that elephants of Thiruvambadi Alangad Malika are always present at the fair. The threesome from Thiruvambadi Alangad Malika undertake a journey to Sonpur Elephant fair for bringing elephants to the Uthramkara temple for the annualPooram Festival. On their way back, on reaching Madurai, they come across an unexpected development which changes theirwhole life and leads them to different situations and these are depicted in THIRUVAMBADI THAMBAN.
Jayaram acts as the son of JagathySreekumar and Nedumudi Venu appears as the uncle. Jayaram brings the character alivewith another fine performance. Jayaram’s strength lies in doing what he knows to the best of his ability and he has done it perfectly. Haripriya merges with the village ambience and gives a creditable show in her debut film. Jagathy Sreekumar shows again why he is the most loved, by another worthy performance. Kishore (who shot to fame through films like Happy, Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, Aadukalam, Porkalam ) has come out with a spectacular performance.
Nedumudi Venu and Thambi Ramiah have done justice to their parts. Samuthirakani's cameo is effective.Rests of the cast are supportive. Director M.Padmakumar has been able to make the story by Suresh Babu amusing and at the same time credible with some fine treatment. Script by Suresh Kumarhas its ups and downs but altogether holds itself well. Camera by Manoj Pillai and editingby Samjith have been of high standard and worth mentioning. Ouseppachan’s compositions are melodious and pleasing to the ear. In short,
THIRUVAMBADI THAMBANis a sweet watchable movie with a simple story and without any cheap irritable gimmics.
Verdict: Watchable.

B.Unnikrishnan's next: "I LOVE ME".
Famous Cartoon Column "Gulfumpadi P.O" to filmic version.
Famous Cartoon Column Gulfumpadi P.O. by Sageer will be adapted to the filmic version by debutant scenarists Prasobh Mazhoor and Shaiju Govind.
Shaiju himself will be directing thefilm. This is for the first time in Malayalam after Bobanum Molyum, that a cartoon column is getting a filmic version.
Heading for a separation
After working together for 24 long years, one of the biggest brand of directors of Mollywood Rafi-Mecartin is heading for a separation. As per the latest details, their last movie together will be Prithviraj 's 'Mumbai Dhosth' all set to start the shoot by the month of June. Howly Pottur will produce these humorous films that will have plenty of slapsticks, as usual by the director duo.
Rai-Mecartin has plenty of super hits like 'Hello', 'Thenkasi Pattanam', 'Chathikkatha Chandhu', 'Puthukottayile Puthumanavalam' and 'Punjabi house',to their credit and has even scripted many more for other directors. Rajeev's new movie 'Kaash' will be another comedy film which will be the launch pad of his two friends -Sajith and Sujith.
The movie is about four friends who hatch a very different plan toget out of their financial crisis.

He will pen script for the movie VENALINTE KALANEEKANGAL. Ananthapadmanabhan, also a media-person, has written severalshort stories before his entry to the tinsel town. K.B. Venu wields the megaphone for this film. Speaking to the media, the young scenarist said that the fact that heis the son of a filmmaker who turned the usual concepts about cinema upside down puts an added responsibility on his shoulders. Murali Gopi and Rima Kallingal play the leads in this movie.

Mohanlal talks aboutthe murder of T.P Chandrasekharan.
Unlike some cultural leaders who keep silent on controversial issues, Mohanlal has posted his response to the killing of T.P.Chandrasekharan in his blog.
Writing on his 52nd birthday, in the article titled ‘Two mothers in my mind’, he has mentioned his own mother who has been in hospital in a critical condition for the last three months and Chandrasekharan’s mother.
‘I have seen my mother’s agony whenever I have been in pain. Imagine the anguish of a mother whose son has been cut to pieces’, Mohanlal wrtes in his owhhandwriting in the blog.
‘I haven’t met T.P.Chandrasekhar but I understand he is about my age. So his mother should be about my mother’s age. I’m not talking politics but it is reprehensible to live in this land of killing and contract killing’, he concludes the post.

Now it is reported that Ann Augustine will play the female protagonist in the film TRIVANDRUM LODGE by V.K. Prakash.

Massive preparations are underway for the shooting expected to start by the end of this year. Since the movie depicts the 1940’s, a lot of research has to go in to the preparations, said Amal.
The director also said that artificial sets and backgrounds would be required to go with the times. Another hassle to be overcome, he says, is to synchronise the dates of Mammootty and Prithviraj who are both very busy artists.
In the meantime, another talk going around is that Mammootty had asked for a change in the story which is causing delay. Amal said that he does not create stylish scenes with any particular motive in mind. He was answering to a question from a scribe as to whether the same kind of stylish scenes as in ‘Big B’, ‘Sagar Alias Jacky’ and ‘Anwar’ would be seen in the new flick. When such films are made, these scenes happen naturally. But Shankar Ramakrishnan scripted ‘ACN’ will be a totally different movie, according to Amal.

Narain in "Jewel Thief"
Narain is becoming active in Malayalam ciema once again. Some of his recent films such as ‘Veeraputhran’ and ‘Grandmaster’ with Mohanlal, were particularly impressive.
He will be the hero in the new film‘Jewel Thief’ which will be directed by Sajan and produced by Sabu Cherian.
Main theme of the movie is jewellery robbery. Along with Narain, Manoj K Jayan and Suraj Venjaramoodu also play important roles in the film. Actressfor the female lead has not been identified yet. The shooting will begin in October.

Has Satyamev Jayate failed from the advertising perspective?
Satyamev Jayate might be the talk of the town and the country, but certain trade reports insist that the show has failed at the advertising level!
One such recent report on Afaqs, the highly respected trade site for news on the marketing and advertising industries in India, states that much against anticipation, Satyamev Jayate on Star Plus has failed to make it to the Top 10 shows list in the Hindi speaking market (HSM) for theweek ended May 12, 2012. Instead, according to TAM's latest data, the much-touted property – garbed in Aamir Khan glory – has opened with a TVR of 3.02 on Star Plus to occupy the 12th spot in the most-watched show hierarchy. It adds that from a hardcore buyer and advertiser's point of view, the show has failed inefficient delivery.
“While the expectations were very high at the initial stage, the levels are much lowered now. And, if such a rating trend continues, then the expectations will significantly diminish. Evidently, this also means that advertisers will not be ready to pay such high premium on the property,” the report quotes a top mediabuyer.
However, it admits that the show has managed to successfully create a brand of its own and therefore, from Khan's perspective, the show is a clear 'hot' success. It can be noted here, that earlier,
Bollywood publicist Dale Bhagwagar had pointed out that "even if the show doesn'tgrow in TRP ratings, it will eventually do a world of good to Brand Aamir Khan.”
He had also pointed out that the actor has connected with urban as well as rural audiences and the show has already been hailed as revolutionary.
"Of course, the most sensible move would be to drastically cut down on production budgets, so that it becomes more viable for its advertisers," Dale had said, further stating that Aamir Khan has nevertheless earned a place in history for attempting a bold concept likethis in a country mired with corruption, political infighting,scams and frauds.

"Its not Santhosh Madhavan's story" : Kunchacko Boban
Kunchacko Boban is adamant thathe is not portraying Santhosh Madhavan in the film ‘God for Sale:Bhakthiprasthanam’ though people see a stark resemblance tothe infamous God man.
Chakochan says that the movie is about the influence that our surroundings inflict on us and thegradual changes that occur over aperiod of time.
As a child, we are influenced by our parents and relatives and we are instilled with faith in God. As we cross childhood and reach manhood, we become brasher and start questioning the faith ending up as non-believers.
At a still later stage, older and wiser, the faith and belief comes back and we become God-fearingagain. This has been illustrated in the movie and it has nothing to do with Santhosh Madhavan, Chakochan said adding that the hero in the film undergoes the same metamorphism.
Babu Janrdanan had approached Chackochan with the same offer four years ago, but at that time, he did not have the confidence to handle the role. But people have started accepting the difference roles that he has been doing and this has convinced him to accept the offer, Chackochan continued. He comes in three different make-ups in the movie.
Mammootty in Lal Jose's "Emmanuel".
Work on Lal Jose directed movie ‘Emmanuel’ with Mammootty in the lead role will begin soon.
Artists for other roles are being identified. Christian characters portrayed by Mammootty have been by and large, very successfuland ‘Emmanuel’ is also expected to be favourably received by the film crowd.
Kottayam Kunchachan, Kizakkan Pathrose, Kuttapayi and Chandy are some of his Christian portrayals which have been remembered for his remarkable performance.
Recent films with Mammootty as the hero have not been able to make much headway in the box office and ‘Emmanuel’ is expected to change the tide.
The shooting will begin as soon as Lal Jose completes his present project which has Prithviraj and Kunchacko Boban in the main roles.
Theater Association up in arms !
Onceagain a war between the associations in Malayalam cinema!
This time, wide releasing is the cause of the conflict. Instead of the government ordinance that gives sanction to 55 theatres for wide release, the Kerala film exhibitors’ federation has decidedto grant permission to only five theatres for the wide release.
The federation has also decided not to grant permission to any other theatre for the next five years. They have signed an agreement with the associations of producers and distributors on this matter. However, the association of B class theatres hascome up against this regard.
Arike :: Movie Review
Shyamaprasad is known for the classy films he brings out of his shelf on a regular basis.
He has brought another rabbit out of his hat with ‘Arike’, a beautifully scripted and sensitivelydirected movie, based on a famous Bengali short story by Sunil Gangopadhayay. Shanthanu (Dileep) is a researcherin linguistics and enjoys close companionship with Kalpana(Samvritha Sunil) and Anuradha(Mamta Mohandas). Shanthanu and Kalpana are in love with each other but both are shy to express their feelings. Anuradha had a bitter experience in love and prefers to be left alonewhile Kalpana loves to have a romantic relationship. Anuradha plays the cupid to bring the two together. How the friendship and romance go forward is the story on which ‘Arike’ has been framed.
As far as entertainment go, perhaps this is the best to come out from Shyamaprasad. The film is short and sweet and there is never a dull moment throughout the entire length of the movie. Acting is another aspect which has come out very well.
Dileep as Shanthanu has performed excellently while Samvritha Sunil looks elegant and natural. Mamta Mohandas does her part with restraint and provesyet again that she will go a long way in her career. Vineeth is fine. And rest of cast in good level.
Ouseppachan’s music and background score sit very well with the mood of the movie. Art direction by Vinesh Banglan is tasteful and Alagappan’s camerawork is remarkably merging with the theme. For those who come to watch a clean and wholesome movie with quality, ‘Arike’ is surely the best prescription.

For those who still cherish the memories of the joint family and the thrill and happiness that go with it, ‘Manjadikuru’ will be a journey back to their childhood and the shared experiences.
In ‘Manjadikuru’, the flashback, takes you back to the 1980’s, to the lost childhood and the innocence of youth. The story is retold through the memories of Vikki who, older and wiser, yearns for those wonderful days.
Vicki as a young boy of 10, comeshome for his grandfather’s cremation. Grandmother insists that her husband’s will shall be opened only after the formalities are completed, which forces everyone to stay back for 16 days.This was an opportunity for Vicky to mix with his cousins and uncles and aunts and neighbours and he spends an eventful 16 days in his village.
He comes to learn the ways of thepeople, the feelings and emotionsthat run their lives, all through theeyes of a ten-year old boy, and goes back a better person.
The movie is definitely going to take you back and bring nostalgicmemories of those lost periods.
You will recognize many of your dear and near ones in the characters like the hot-blooded rebel played by Murali, the rude and haughty son-in-law by Jagathy, The tender and loving Praveena who is aunt and sister to many, the dominating mother by Urvasi, the cunning relative by Bindu Panikker and many more. And the most striking and noticeable feature of the movie is the absolute innocence of the children so beautifully conveyed by the talented child artists.
The story is narrated through the perception of children which makes the plot simple, straightforward and easy to the senses.
The child artists are terrific and perfectly natural. Prithviraj as the adult Vicki makes a brief appearance but lends his voice for Vicki’s narration. He makes hisguest appearance along with Padmapriya towards the climax. Praveena, Bindu Panikker, Rahiman and Urvasi have themostscreen presence after the childrenand they do a commendable job. Murali, Thilakan and Kaviyoor Ponnamma have performed impressively in their small but significant roles.
Anjali Menon’s role should in no way be underplayed as she has achieved to make a great film out of a simple story. She has highlighted each individual character without giving importance to anyone in particular. The script, written by herself, is touching, sensitive and subtle. She will attain greater heights very soon.
Pietro Zuercher’s photography brings out the rustic beauty of Kerala village while Francois Gamaury’s background score is absolutely apt and amazing. Kavalam Narayana Panikker’s lyrics are tuned by Ramesh Narayanan to produce soft and melodious music.
The film has been kept simple, highlights relationships and family values, and has to be seen with the whole family.

Mohanlal in three more films
As per the latest schedules, Mollywood Superstar Mohanlal willhave three more films to release this year. After his 'Grandmaster ' which had a different Lal in the offering, the coming movies will also display the best in the star.
The immediate release of the star will be the movie with Ranjith titled "Spirit' which is into its post production. The movie which teams up the duo after five long years is said to have a very sociallyrelevant theme and a stellar cast in the supporting list. The movie is expected to be on theatres by the final weeks of June.
Mohanlal is currently working for the movie 'Run baby run' with senior director Joshy. A new generation flick with a TV channelas its backdrop, 'Run baby run' will also have Amala Paul as the heroine in the scripts of Sachi. The movie is expected to become the Onam release of the star.
Mohanlal 's next project will be P Balachandrakumar's 'thriller titled as 'Specialist. This movie that will be extensively shot in Quilon will be the last release of the star in 2012, though he will start working for the new Priyadarshan movie which will have Dulqar Salman sharing the screens.

Prithviraj for a new change
After all those out of the world hero roles, Prithviraj is finally opting for a change like his mentor director Ranjith. Followingthe senior filmmaker who made immense success travelling in a different route away from his pucca commercial entertainers, Prithvi will also change lanes aftercompleting a couple of films that he has already committed.The actor who is on to action flicks like 'Hero' will start to do new generation flicks by the final months of this year. It is reportedthat Prithvi's change of mind is all due to the appreciation that his contemporaries like Fahad Fazil, Vineeth Sreenivasan and indrajith has accumulated after being in that sort of films.
Interestingly Prirthvi is the only young actor in Mollywood to haveappeared in more than a dozen ofserious, offbeat ventures in a span of a limited career of ten years or less.

Mohanlal and Reema Kallingal were adjudged the best in acting in the Kerala Film critics' awards announced yesterday. While Mohanlal was named for his role in 'Pranayam', Reema got the award for his meticulous performance in 'Indian Rupee'. While ''Pranayam'' was also named as the best film of the year2011, its director Blessy will get the award for the best director. O N V Kurup will be honoured with the award �halachitra Ratnam, forhis contribution to cinema. The others in the award list include Anoop Menon, Lena, Bobby-Sanjai,Santhosh Sivan, Manjary, Vidhu Prathap, Rajeev Alungal and Don Max. Malayalam movie 'BREAKING NEWS '
A new movie has hit the floors and this has been titled as Breaking News. Thefilm has the luscious seductress Kavya Madhavan in the lead and this is being directed by Sudheer Ambalapad.
The shooting is happening at Munnar and after this, the unit will move to Calicut for the rest of the shooting. It is heard that the story is about certain social issues and how the media deals with it.
The screenplay is penned bynoted media professional G Kishore whereas Vineeth and Saranya Mohan are essaying key roles in the film. All eyes are on Kavya Madhavan though.

His latest film THIRUVAMBADI THAMBAN by M. Padmakumar tells the story of a family whose business is importing elephants from Bihar and selling it here.
Jayaram made his debut in Padmarajan's Aparan (1988). Jayaram won his first Kerala State Film Award, a Special Jury Award, for his performance in the film Thooval Kottaram (1996).
He went on to win another Kerala State Film Award, and has won four Filmfare Awards in South. In 2001, he won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award, Special Prize award, for his performance in Thenali (2000). In 2011, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India for his contribution towards the arts.
The film THIRUVAMBADI THAMPAN will feature Kannada actress Haripriya in the female lead role. Jagathy Seekumar, Kishore, Thampi Ramaiah ,Nedumudi Venu, Jayaprakash play other major roles. "Thiruvambadi Thamban" hit bigscreens on May 25th.

A channel battle for malayalam films.
A massive channel battle seems to be on for bagging the television rights of new Malayalam films. The major television channel giants in thestate seem to be competing with one another to ensure that the viewers get to see thereal blockbusters on their respective channels.
Asianet leads the fray, and has already acquired the televsion rights of films like ‘Masters’, ‘Casanova’, ‘Swapnasanchari’, ‘Kunjaliyan’, ‘Nayika’, ‘Dr. Love’, ‘Father’s Day’, ‘Ee Thirakkinidayil’, ‘Achante Aanmakkal’ and ’3 Char Sau Bees’.

Geethu Mohandas slams new age Malayalam cinema
Actor turned director Geethu Mohandas is not very happy with the surge of so-called ‘modern themes’ in Malayalam cinema. Geethu is of the opinion that the new age films are rather mediocre.
Geethu Mohandas, who has many Malayalam films in her kitty is extremely disappointed with the current wave of modern cinema in Mollywood and says that these films don’t entertain her. Speaking to a website, Geethu Mohandas said that all her friends seem to enjoy these movies, whereas she is the only person who can’t seem to relate to the new age themesin Malayalam cinema.
According to Geethu Mohandas, there is not a single true filmmaker today as all movies are filled with gimmicks. Geethu, like thousands of other Malayalis, feel that films made in the 70s and 80s are what that can be termed as good cinema.
Meanwhile, Geethu has completed shooting for her second film, Liar's Dice . Well, Geethu definitely has a point. Anyway, let’s see what Geethu has to offer the audience!

A cinema named as ' Cinema '
Debutant director Anish Shashidarhas selected an unusual name for his film and that is 'Cinema'. The film is produced by Shivakumar Payattuvila and Pradeepkumar Arayoor. Newcomers Abhilash, Akhil, Aryan and Suraj will depict the lead characters. The film also stars Lal, Jimmy George, Lena and Nasreen.

Jagathy for a longer schedule
As Jagathy Sreekumar's aching body has started responding to medicines, the doctors at the Vellore C M C are waiting for the actor's brains to respond. Currently in a semi-conscious state, the actor is finding it difficult to identify his relatives around him. The doctors expect that the treatment schedules may take a longer term than what theyinitially anticipated.
Jagathy's right side was largely paralysed after the head injury following the accident that happened at Calicut, during the second week of March. But now the actor is able to move his right leg. The doctors are expecting this movement to pass over to other parts of the side which will gradually help the actor to regain his ability to speak. The producer of ’22 FEMALE KOTTAYAM’, O.G.Sunil (OGee), has started work on his next movie titled ‘KASHHH….’.
‘22 FK’ was a brutal commentary on the stark reality of the plethoraof hardships facing the women ofKerala today and the film fans accepted it with both hands. ‘KASHHH...’ is another movie whichcaters to the contemporary youth of Kerala, mixing it up with humour, banter and sarcasm, andcould be called a full length comedy film.
The movie is directed by Sujith-Sajith team and they write the story and script as well. Main actors are Rajeev Govinda Pillai, Bineesh Kodiyeri, Basil, Vineeth, Innocent, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Indrans, Tini Tom and Mamukoya.
Vamanapuram Mani writes the dialogues while Sandip tunes the music on lyrics by Vayalar Sarathchandra Varma. Shooting ofthe movie starts on June 1st.
'Samualinte Makkal' renamed as 'Lisammayude veedu'
‘Samuelinte Makkal’, the sequel to ‘Achanurangatha Veedu’ has beenwritten about and talked about somuch and people have been waiting anxiously for its release.
But the latest talk is regarding a change in the title and the new name being bandied about is ‘Lisammayude Veedu”.
Unni Mukundan, the original male lead, will also be replaced as Unni’s dates clash with the film’s shooting. Search is on to find a replacement.

Tharuni Sachdev passed away !!
Child artist Tharuni Sachdev who stole the hearts of Malayalee film fans through her roles in 'Vellinakshathram' and 'Satyam', died in an air crash while travelling in a Nepalese airplane. She was returning with her mother after a temple visit when the accident occurred. Her motherwas also killed along with her.

Malayalam cinema Rebounds !
It isevident that Malayalam cinema scene has changed perceptibly and the quality of films released during the summer vacation and Vishu festival have brought the crowd back to the theaters in good numbers.
‘GRAND MASTER’, ‘DIAMOND NECKLACE’ and ‘MALLU SINGH’ have all been crowd pullers because of their quality and themes which were quite different from the usual stuff.
In ‘GRAND MASTER’, Mohanlal playsa character closer to his age and maturity and it has given a boost to his image which was suffering from the catastrophic failure of ‘Casanovva’. The movie itself stands apart as a classic thriller fit to be ranked among the best.
‘MALLU SINGH’ is another hit which qualifies as a mass entertainer and the scenic beauty of Punjab and the city of Patiala adds colour to the movie.
‘DIAMOND NECKLACE’ tells about the changing times and the different lifestyles of people living overseas. Though a romantic story, it differs by the treatment and presentation from that master craftsman Lal Jose. ‘Star in the making’ Fahad Fazil has given a remarkable performance and LalJose is particularly pleased with Fahad’s acting which, according to Lal, is so adaptable and could be bent to the extreme without breaking.
’22 FEMALE KOTTAYAM’, another movie released earlier, was also acclaimed by critics for its bold theme on a contemporary issue. Similarly,
‘MAYAMOHINI’, was able to capture a sizable section of fans and bring in profits, though the quality of the film was nothing to be talked about, and the film has completed 30 days successfully.
The lukewarm response accordedto Malayalam films at the beginning of 2012 in spite of the super star presence had given rise to fears among the film makers but the trend has changed and the beginning of thechange could be traced from ‘EE ADUTHAKALATHU’ which was a reasonable success. It was followed by ‘ORDINARY’, the first mega hit of 2012, which has completed 60 days and still going strong.
Along with a crop of young stars, this period has also given a number of new directors and artists which bodes well for Malayalam Cinema.

It's Thalaivan for Ilayathalapathy Vijay!
Director AL Vijay has completed the scripting workof Ilayathalapathy Vijay starrer film. The filmmaker, who is busy in Vikram starrer Thandaavam , has temporarilytitled the film as Thalaivan .
Rumours are rife that Thalaivan will take off in June.It is said that Vijay, who is busy with AR Murugadoss’ Thupaki , will simultaneously do Al Vijay’s film as well as Gautham Menon’s Yohan: Adhyayam Ondru . Lenin's 'Edavappathy' at Munnar
It’s not about the rains that we are talking about here, Edavappathy happens to be Lenin Rajendran’s latest film. The shooting is currently underway at a plantation bungalow in Munnar.
Siddhartha Lama, who shot into fame as a young Buddhist kid in Yoddha makes his reentry in Malayalam, after two decades. Manisha Koirala, Uttara, Prashanth Narayanan include the film’s cast.

Sreejith to play Sathya Sai Baba
Actor Sreejith Vijay has been chosen to play spiritual guru Sathya Sai Baba’s part during a certain point in his life, in the forthcoming Telugu film Baba Sathya Sai, directed by Kodi Ramakrishna.

Tamil star Bhagyaraj is debuting into Malayalam with the movie 'MrMarumakan'. Directed by Sandhya Mohan, Dileep- Bhagyaraj combo will be the highlight of this film which is made as a nonstop humorous fare. The other speciality of the movie is that Baby Sanusha, who excelled in many roles including 'Kazhcha' will turn a heroine with the movie.
'Mr Marumakan' has Janapriyanayakan Dileep as Ashokraj, who is the heir of the family owning the most famous drama troupe of sixties and seventies-Bharatha kalakshethram. Ashok is the younger son of Rajagopalan Thampy (Nedumudi Venu), the current organiser of the defunct drama troupe which is based in Ottappalam.
Though a lawyer by profession, Ashok is also interested in reviving the drama troupe which was once run by hisfamily. The troupe which had ignited much discussions in the social and political arena had been into deep trouble when Ashokraj came up to hold its mantle.
As a part of giving a new face to 'Bharathakalakshetram', Ashok is now directing and playing the lead of the drama titled Dasavatharam, for the troupe. Ashok Raj even changes his nameto Ashok Chakravarthy to suit the tastes of the new generation drama viewers. But after a pretty good restart, financial troubles start to affect the troupe.
Into this difficult situation arrives Ashok's elder brother Baburaj, an MBA holder, who runs a company which is now in a financial mess. The entire family is now surrounded by debtors who are trying to get back their money by hook or crook. Ashok had a special ability to somehow manage things in every crisis. Balasubrahmanyam (Bhagyaraj) isa bank officer who arrives to initiate legal proceedings against Babu Raj and to attach their bunglow to get him to repay the loan that he had taken, to start hisventure. But Balasubrahmanyam has got his share of woes, as he is estranged from his arrogant wife Raja Mallika (Khushboo). Mallika hails from a wealthy familyand is the daughter of the even harsher Raja Kokila (Sheela), who is the boss of Raja's group of companies. Sanusha appear as Rajalekshmy, the daughter of RajaMallika, who is just back to Kerala after completing her degree in fashion designing. The trio believes that a woman can carry on easily, without the help of a man and that is the one reason, Balasubrahmaniam is now out of his house. Ashok Raj now decidesto get into the scheme of things to pacify the bank officer and delay the bank procedures.

Viswaroopam on June ?
This has become the talk of the town. Grapevine is abuzz that Kamal Haasan's 'Viswaroopam' will see a worldwide release in Tamil - Hindi on June 29.
The post-production work of the film is taking place in a full swing following which Kamal Haasan will be screening the movie for Hollywood producer Barrie M Osborne of 'The Lord Of The Rings' fame as reported earlier.
It will release simultaneously in multiple languages and in Hindi as'Vishwaroop'. The film is based on international terrorism and will see Kamal Haasan in more than one roles, including that of a terrorist.

Suriya Sivakumar's much expected 'Maatraan' will see a big worldwide release on August 15 that falls on a Wednesday! Suriya will portray two different roles in the movie.

Suraj Venjarumoodu as hero in 'Ente Sathyanweshana Pareekshakal '.
Afterwriting the script for “Urumi”, which proved to be a super hit, Shankar Ramakrishnan is at it again, this time writing the script for “Ente Sathyanweshana Pareekshakal”.
The movie will be directed by newcomer Subil and the main rolewill be played by Suraj Venjaramoodu. Search for other actors is on.
The film will be produced by K. Anil Mathew under the banner of Mary Matha Productions.
Incidentally, Shanker Ramakrishnan worked earlier as assistant to Ranjith and played a principal part in Ranjith’s movie “Spirit”.

Bachelor party on June 8
As the Mollywood screens are bombarded with new generation flicks that has started mincing money, it seems that director Amal Neerad cannot wait with hisusual styles. He will be back into the fray with a different movie titled 'Bachelor party' which will get into theatres on the eighth of this June.
Basically a road movie telling the plot of five friends, the movie will have an impressive cast starting from Prithviraj , Asif AIi, Nithya Menon, Kalabhavan Mani, Indrajith, Rehman, Vinayakan and Ramya Nambeshan.

Baburaj is very busy now !
After the recent makeover in his image , actor Baburaj is finding it difficult to allot the dates for everymovies coming his way.The actor who has also excelled in the recent 'Mayamohini' and 'Ordinary', will be seen in at least a dozen more films in the coming months. ‘Karuman Kashappan’ is the story of Mohanlal fans and is being produced by Chidambaran Peringottukurissi under the banner of Chidambaram Creations.
Consisiting of new faces, the film is being shot in different locationsof Palakkad District. The characters speak the typical Malayalam spoken by the people of Chittur, Kollengode, Parali and Malampuzha and even the names are peculiar to Palakkad like Kasappan, Manjarali and Velan.
The movie is being directed by Sajil Parali for whom this is the first directorial venture.
It is a typically Palakkad based andoriented film more akin to some of the super hits in Tamil and gives opportunities to an astounding 87 newcomers.
It is the story of three Mohanlal fans from Choorikkad village played by Shaji, Vinu and Rajesh who disappear after taking part in a festival and the movie followsthe track to find out the fate of these three Mohanlal fans.

Froma professional marcher to the Mayor of Trivandrum! That is the amusing story of Padmanabhan illustrated in ‘NADODI MANNAN’. The movie is directed by Viji Thambi.
Padmanabhan(Dileep) was a professional marcher for any procession be it by any political party. He was the only son of comrade Madhavan, a veteran communist leader from Ottapalamknown for his integrity, and his childhood memories were of going to party demonstrations hanging on to his father’s arms. When his father died leaving him to look after his mother and two sisters, he was forced to take up the job of a professional marcher,the only work he knew. So he became a paid professional marcher for all who wanted him. He even changed his attire depending on which party’s procession he was attending. He wore dresses to match the colours of the respective party flags and this made him the darling of all. He spends most of his time in Thiruvananthapuran inconnection with the procession and he reaches the capital once again for the same purpose. But this time, his march becomes a big turning point in his life. He is made a candidate for the Corporation polls and gets elected. And then he is made the Mayor of the Corporation, ‘From the Jack to a King’, as the saying goes.

The movie, which is not named yet, has Prithviraj in the role of a doctor. The locations for shootingwill be Trivandrum, Peerumad andErnakulam. The movie is being produced by Prem Prakash under the banner of Prakash Movietone. Actors for other roles are being identified.

Dulkar salman's next project with Martin Prakkattu.
Afterthe hit debut film ‘Best Actor’, Martin Prakkat is all set for his second film.
The film will have the upcoming super star Dulquer Salmaan to do the lead role.
This is the fourth film of Dulquer after SECOND SHOW, USTAD HOTEL and JUNE. .
Interestingly, it was his father Mammootty who donned the male protagonist in Martin’s fist film ‘BEST ACTOR’.

Nikhil Menon's directorial debut,"My Fan Ramu" pooja held
Singer-actor Nikhil Menon will mark his directorial debut through the movie ‘MY FAN RAMU’.
The film will have young actors Rajeev Pillai and Saiju Kuruppu to play the male leads. It deals with the story of a super star and his ardent fan. It is learned that Rajeev will be the star and Saiju appears as the fan.
The crew says that the movie will feature two new faces as heroines among them one is Thrissur based Nishitha. Bineesh Kodiyeri, Biju Kuttan, Prajod Kalabhavan Spadikam George andGuinness Pakru are other main actors.

Mallu sing :: Average opening
The much hyped and anticipated Mallu Singh has got off to a flying start at the boxoffice collecting almost 1.80 Crores in its opening weekend. The Kunchako Boban - Unni Mukundan starrer directed by Hit Maker Vyshakh released in 70 theaters on 4 May 2012. Though the film has not managedravishing reports, it has safely earned its name as a colourful engaging entertainer.
The opening day fetched the film a decent 60 Lakhs, and collectionspicked up slightly on the weekend. The word of mouth is not that encouraging, as it has been the cases with recently released masala entertainers. But the success of films of late have shown us that entertainment value works big time at the boxoffice, more than anything else. Mallu Singh had the potential for a much bigger opening had it got a solo release.
Mallu Singh shall definitely make it big at the boxoffice if it does not encounter disastrous fall in collections during the weekdays. Grandmaster opened to about 80% on the opening day, grossing just about 65 Lakhs, but picked up by 15-20% on the weekend. The film carries favorable reports and shall be profitable if it does not fall more than 45-50% during the weekdays.
The Mohanlal starrer however faces stiff challenge from a MasalaEntertainer in the form of Mallu Singh which also had opened to tremendous attendance, and another multiplex - city centred film Diamond Necklace featuring Fahad Fazil, who has of late hit a purple patch of success.

VERDICT FLOP
Masters had all the ingredients to become a successful venture at the Boxoffice. On retrospection the only thing that could have gone wrong for this thriller may be the releasing time. Masters released at the eve of the vacationand two weeks prior to the Vishu season. Masters got sandwiched between two biggiesnamely The King and the Commissioner and Mayamohini, with just one open week to collect, that too along with a Super Strong Ordinary. The fact that the movie managed to collect about 3.5 Crored itself is decent considering the circumstances, but a film which manages to recover its cost can be named nothing but a Flop. Masters shall find its place amongst those films which deserved better returns at the ticket counter than what it actually managed.

Saiju Kurup turns scenarist?
It seems that more actors are venturing to showcase their writing skill treading the success of Anoop Menon.
The latest buzz is that actor Saiju Kuruppu will pen the script for the upcoming movie "MY FAN RAMU" by debutant Nikhil Menon (Play Back Singer) .
The script of the movie will be jointly written by Saiju and Nikhil. The film will be produced by Sasi Ayyanchira under the banner of Uthrattathi Films.
Another speciality of the film is that the music of the movie will be scored by Sajeev Thomas who has composed the music for Kerala Strikers.
Rajeev Pillai, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Bijukuttan, Saiju Kuruppu , Undapakru, Bineesh Kodiyeri, Vivek Gopan, Spadikam George, Riyaz Khan are the main actors in the film. The female lead has not yet been decided. The pooja of the film will be held at Cochin on May 7th.
The film will be canned in Kollam, Cochin and Palakkad.
Shahbaz Aman in newmovie Bhoomiyude Avakasikal
Music composer Shahbaz Aman in `Bhoomiyude Avakasikal’ will show his face for the first time on celluloid. Now, the singer, composer will stand in front of the camera instead of the microphone. Shehbaz Aman playsan important role in T.V.Chandran’s upcoming movie `Bhoomiyude Avakasikal’. Anand Kumar is producing the movie under the banner of Yes Cinema Company. Main cast includes Sreenivasan, Biju Menon and Mamu Koya. Shahbaz has scored music for `Sprit’, directed by Ranjith and `Shutter’ of Joy Mathew.
